A daily serving of peanuts helps the brain process glucose more effectively.
In a study conducted by Maastricht University, 31 individuals aged 60–75 consumed 60 g of unsalted roasted peanuts daily for 16 weeks.
Researchers subsequently observed improved insulin sensitivity in several brain regions, including those associated with memory—specifically the hippocampus, thalamus, and cingulate gyrus.
The authors note that brain insulin sensitivity can decline with age and is linked to cognitive health. The same research group had previously reported that a similar peanut-inclusive diet increased cerebral blood flow and improved verbal memory performance.
