The Salmonella outbreak in the United Kingdom could originate in Ukraine

The salmonellosis outbreak in the United Kingdom

More than 250 people affected and one death attributed to this disease over the course of a year prompted national authorities to investigate the causes; one hypothesis points to infection linked to the consumption of imported chicken eggs, local press reports, citing the UK Health Security Agency.

The UK imports 11% of the eggs sold in the country, and a third of these come specifically from Ukraine—where, due to a lack of adequate controls, *Salmonella enteritidis* contamination in this product is common, media outlets highlight.

Although they do not identify Ukraine as the confirmed source, they state that the relevant authorities are considering this possibility as one of the leading working hypotheses.

They also point to several cases of salmonellosis recorded in various European countries following the consumption of dry, chicken-flavored instant noodles produced at a factory near Kyiv.
