A new study has shown that people who consumed 60 grams of almonds daily for 20 weeks reported better sleep quality and fell asleep more quickly.
It took them about 18 minutes to fall asleep, compared to 26 minutes for the control group.
Almonds contain magnesium and tryptophan, substances involved in processes related to sleep regulation. However, it is not yet clear whether the observed improvements are specifically due to these components.
Furthermore, scientists have not established whether consuming almonds right before bedtime helps one fall asleep faster that same night.
For chronic insomnia, experts recommend cognitive-behavioral therapy rather than attempting to resolve the issue through specific food items. While almonds can be part of a balanced diet, they are no substitute for adequate sleep or, when necessary, professional medical treatment.
