Production volume in the Champagne wine region has dropped by nearly half compared to 2025, according to the French Ministry of Agriculture. Extreme heat and drought across Europe have damaged vineyards and reduced yields.
France, the world's second-largest wine producer after Italy, forecasts an output of 4.5 billion bottles—down 6% from last year and 17% below the 2021–2025 average.
Wine production in Burgundy-Beaujolais will drop by a third, while in the Val de Loire and Charente regions, it will fall by 12% and 6%, respectively. Languedoc-Roussillon, the largest wine-producing region, will see a 5% increase in output compared to last year's poor harvest, though total volume will remain below average.
On Friday, the French government announced over €1 billion in aid for farmers.
